It may never send in the ground troops, but i do think they'll send in the navy. They already did when China was firing missiles in Taiwan's direction.

To assume that U.S. will not involve directly if Mainland indeed uses force against Taiwan is a very dangerous miscalculation. If the war indeed breaks out, only have navy and air force commitment will help Taiwan a great deal. It's not like U.S. need to send the soldiers into hand combat or something.
