Ten Are you saying that Clinton would never had spy planes flying near Chinese waters in the first place? Or are you saying that Clinton would have diffused the situation immediately? Or maybe that Clinton would have had it hushed up and we never would have heard about it. <G> Dave

Tenchusatsu, Has anyone stopped to think about this whole flying up and down the Chinese coast thing? We have probably been doing it for 50-100 years.....and probably have spent billions on planes, sophisticated equipment, and people training just so we can fill out these reports and file them on disks for storage....the gov't must be one of EMC's best customers. It suddenly dawned on me that we are like the nosy neighbor with his telescope. And then I wonder if all this snooping and all this info we have gotten on the Chinese and/or the Russians is worth one plugged nickel. After all, like most snoops we seem to misinterpret the info we get..look at Reagan, he was absolutely convinced we needed star wars to protect us from the invincible Russians....who collapsed a few years later. I am sure he came to that conclusion based on the info coming in from these planes and spy satellites. And like most snoops we are not very good at hiding that we are snooping....which makes me wonder who exactly we are. Someone said the reason why the Chinese don't fly spy planes over here is because we are are so open....wrong!! Our airspace is so regulated that should a Chinese mig try to get close at all, we would have planes in the air so damn fast it would be pitiful. We set ourselves up to be the good guys.....so does that mean the good guys go around snooping all the time...and getting countries to let you build bases so you can do more snooping on more countries than anyone else. Makes you wonder! ted
