On the other hand, if we are not supposed to impose our values on others, what matter if it is privately done, or done by our government.

You may recall earlier in this discussion I was using the terminology "autonomous entity" and talking about the relationship between "peers." I tried to avoid the word "we" because it's ambiguous, but it slipped in some because the other seemed so stilted. I'm sorry if that was confusing.

When contracts occur or when collaboration occurs, they occur between peers so that's the relationship I've been talking about. IMO, it's really important to keep that relationship respectful.

There's a relationship between the US government and me, which is defined by law. There is a relationship between you and me, which is defined by law and enforced by our government. There is also a relationship between you and me that is defined by unwritten contract between the two of us. Neither of us has any relationship with the government of Sudan but we can form relationships between us and individual Sudanese just as we can between the two of us. Helping those Sudanese would be via the relationship between autonomous peers with shared values. They're asking for our help, after all. Our thumbing our noses at their government in the process is irrelevant because there's no relationship there to tend and no peer is imposing any values on any other peer.
