Epinephrine, re:<<Intel can counter anything AMD says by a campaign 10 times...>>
Not really, the market is already saturated with these ads. Any increase might actually call attention to the opposition -- something like: Why is Intel advertising so much? Hmm, must be that upstart AMD. I wonder which computer the experts like...

<So if for every commercial that a consumer sees that states that AMD processors are the best he sees ten others (most likely during prime time) that say that Intel processors are the best then what effect do you think that would have on AMD?>

The current situation is 20:1, so it would be an improvement, plus, see my comment about increasing the controversy level.

<how you would propose that AMD could counteract such an advertising flood from Intel that a war of words would provoke?>

I'd rather have Intel wasting money on more advertising than lowering prices.

Epi, Word of mouth is indeed very effective, as is shown with movies.
AMD products are sleepers, as they say, and are gathering converts no matter what Intel does.

Epinephrine: Dave,

I have no doubt that you are very competent in your field and I am very surely not competent in it, but I think you missed one
of Jozef's main points which was...

"Intel can counter anything AMD says by a campaign 10 times..."

More than half the people I know have never heard of AMD. Intel could spend a thousand times AMD's advertising and they still wouldn't be able to erase the knowledge of competing products from viewers' minds.
