No whining allowed...perseverance will prevail!

Have you updated virus definitions recently? Have you run a virus scan? Probably not the cause of your problems but I did find a reference to it when searching for "in use" message.

Go to start/run/type in "msconfig" (without quotes) and click ok. Go to the Startup tab and remove the checkmarks to the left of Csinsm32, Csinject, Monwow, Realplay, Iowatch, Robot, Imgicon. The first three are part of Norton Cleansweep, the I's are iomega disk programs, realplayer speaks for itself, and I don't know what robot is. Mr.mark is my #1 source of info on Norton and he may be able to give you more details on which Norton file does what. If you find later that you would like them to load at startup you can go back and put the checkmarks back in. You will be prompted to restart after clicking the ok button after removing the checkmarks. After the restart, run enditall and then try defrag again. If you still get the "in use by disk utility message" or monwow still refuses to close I would guess that it may be corrupt or something else has gone wrong with Norton Cleansweep and we'll try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

ps: I'll be gone most of the day but I'm sure more help will arrive.
