Steve, I also own a Lexus IS300 with a 5-speed autotrans.

Sometimes, when I floor it, it winds up between 2nd and 3rd to 6,200 RPM and goes nowhere. At other times, it shifts gears at max torque (around 4,500 RPM) and pushes everyone back in their seats. When you have paid the price to get 218 pounds of torque, "sometimes" is not what you expect. Having to flip the switch on my $1,000 Nikon 990 at just the right time, is not what I expected either.

Perhaps the Germans got it right all along. For just a few dollars more. a Hasselblad and a BMW 5xx would probably be a far better combo than a premium Nikon digicam and a "new" Lexus. IMHO, when you go manual and expect no assistance, you usually get better results.
