I think the 1970's will be seen as a real low point in the century eventually; the 60's get more attention now because they were more colorful. But the 1970's win the prize for absolutely SUCKING in so many ways: end of Nixon and Vietnam, disco, oil shocks, then Jimmy Carter capped by the Iranian crisis.

Uncle Sam is not my favorite entity after 13 years in his employ but they are much, much better now than 20-30 years ago in most respects.
