The point is that there would have been heat issues if the chip was over ... say 1GHz. So that's why the demo speed is under 1GHz.

Just to be sure: Was it actually possible to look inside the case of the 1.5GHz Palominos?

No, AMD didn't allow that. And since it's very loud on shows like CeBIT, Comdex etc. it's nearly impossible to hear the fans. However, I reached under the table where the 1.53 GHz system was demoed and there was noticeable airflow. I suspect they used some sort of ventilation system to keep it cool.
