ML- Can you indicate the nature of the comments that are thrasing Jiang and Tang to pieces? It would be very interesting to know from inside China what kind of apology they expected from US. Thanks.

Interesting to note that, in Chinese culture, forcing the other side to say sorry does NOT save your face. Only gaining respect does. Soon, the leaders will realize that and Jiang's time is basically over.

Unfortunately, this incident has not taught the Chinese government that detaining people for long is really really bad. Even more, Chinese people are too used to this kind of thing. The outrage here is not understood at all over there.

Anyway, glad this thing is over. War and sactions do not bring people together. Culture exchange is just a superficial thing. Only trade will bring people together. Hopefully, the congress will not do anything unwise to hurt the prospects which they have so strongly promoted themselves.

If the Chinese leadership have anything to regret, it will be the level of propoganda that they allowed. Some the Chinese people are apparently so enraged that think stopping trade with one of their biggest partners and risking war over this incident is a reasonable proposition. Thank goodness the leadership doesn't.
