I think feminists need to find a way to be feminist without being anti male, and without being hypocrites. When I met with NOW (they interviewed me when I ran for school board- to see if they would give me money) they were amazingly intolerant of my few differences with them. I didn't really care- but if they want to be meaningful and mainstream, they better care. I agree with them on almost everything. Our only difference? I was not willing to support quota-like affirmative action programs based on classes which our state constitution expresses no discrimination must take place around. So for example, promoting women, simply because they are women, would not meet with my approval- it's against the constitution.

Poverty, however, and inadequacy of educational opportunities, or MYRIADS of other standards are fine with me. But they were angry at me by the end of our talk for not bending to their point of view. If they want a straw in the wind, or a zealot, they really ought to put that on their form letter, so people like me won't waste our time. I was rather disappointed with NOW after that experience.

I don't think it is the people who are working against violence who are making the link

You're kidding, right? Feminism headed down the wrong path when it first started putting issues beyond the equal rights of women under the umbrella of "women's issues."
