'Yes, if the wealth distribution had been restructured so that those who were most in need of increased funds in order to buy an economy car had benefited most, Instead of those who needed the money to upgrade to a Suburban Assault Vehicle, we would be in much better shape with regards oil imports. "

I am not a great believer in redistribution of wealth. At least, not by the government.

Or, we could simply open up the VAST oil reserves in Alaska and off the coast of California to provide for our energy needs well into the next century.

We have the technology and know-how to mine for oil safely. The only ones preventing it are eco-zealots who have zero faith in our ability to solve engineering challenges, and build in sound contingency planning practices.

We also have the talent to safely build nuclear power plants.

In so many ways Democrats view our energy needs the same way they view a lot of other economic issues. Namely, the pie is of a certain fixed size and we can never expand it, only divided it up into little pieces.

Our energy pie can be expanded tenfold if we have the will and political/Social environment in place to do it. Why limit what we can expand safely and reliably, thereby enhancing our wealth generating capacity tenfold?
