So I still don't know anything except that he takes hostile exception to my listing.

I don't know what JLA had in mind, either. I'm sure he'll tell you and the rest of us sooner or later. I know that I don't have any heartburn over your list. At least I don't as long as you frame it as a list of characteristics that you associate with fundamentalists.

According to the dictionary, a fundamentalist is someone who adheres to a literal interpretation of the Bible or other set of tenets. Living as a fundamentalist may predispose one to take on the unpleasant characteristics that you itemize, but those characteristics do not define the fundamentalist.

If a person doesn't manifest these characteristics, in whole or in part, or even just declares him or herself not to be a fundamentalist, I accept that they are not fundamentalists.

It may be reasonable to expect people to demonstrate that they have common sense, are sensitive to suffering, etc. to avoid your displeasure, but they shouldn't have to defend themselves from the label, fundamentalist.
