It was a cool job, sandintoes. I initially worked in Texas in the part of the program associated with medical aspects of crew safety and performance. My boss was Dr. Bill Douglas, the physician who cared for (some say tortured) the original seven astronauts.

I had the good fortune (thrill?) of becoming acquainted with many of the early astronauts and with a number of the German scientists who got them off the ground.

Later, I worked as a planner and spokesman for Department of Defense space programs through the early shuttle era. Nothing like front row seats for a launch :-)
