That does sound thrilling. I read the book about the original German developers of our space program. I can't remember the name of the book any more, but it was an eye opener.

They were almost 100% responsible for our space program...
It is fortunate that Hitler ran out of steam, or he would have had the rockets first.

A good friend of mine was a Dr. for the space program, and was there the day it blew up right after launch. Were you in the program at the time?

By chance - might you have known either Fred Haise or Kurt Debus? I too have had the fortune of knowing both and working with one. Long story . . . but yes, working around the space program and seeing the passion those guys had for their work was an awesome opportunity . . . one I'll never forget.
