Thanks Milo for the link. So, it's 5,000 jobs cut, for a beginning.

Forecasts

Intel said last month that demand had declined in all regions. Sales of server chips fell more than those of personal- computer microprocessors, as did revenue from networking chips, the company said. Intel also said it would cut 5,000 jobs.

milo:

You just don't commonly see sequential percentage revenue and profit declines that large...and certainly they are never a one time event...Such precipitous declines are the result of an accumulation over time of missteps and wrong tactics and like water held back by a dam, will ultimately overflow if corrective actions are not successful...Well corrective actions have so far been unsuccessful and the dam can no longer hold the water back...

Just as it takes time for a company to reach such a crisis state (and yes, I'd define 25% revenue decline and 50% profit decline quarter/quarter as a crisis state for a company which did $33.7 billion in revenues last year), it will take time to mend the fundamental problems...INTC's predicted drastic drop off in sequential revenues(20%) and profits(50%) in Q1 is probably just the first in what may prove to be a long series of "uninspiring", euphemistically speaking, quarters, imo!!!
