mindmeld: COGS depends on change in inventory valuation. Write off inventory, then COGS goes up. Do the math

Message 15302491

The reason I don't think they write off all inventory at once is because they can't afford the optics of GM coming down so far. But they also can't just hold it flat, or they get killed. So I'm expecting GM to take a whack this q. How much? Anybody's guess. As I said, up to $1B varience just in COGS / Rev lines.

If Chambers has zero vis... well, I don't feel embarrased having less than zero vis.

John.

"charge associated with the layoffs of $800 million to $1.2 billion as well as a charge for excess inventory of about $2.5 billion"

Wow. Big Bath, indeed.
