why be shorting if negativity is waning?

That is also why I am so bullish on technology stock.

That incredibly bad Cisco warning and all we get is this!!

Intel will not be as bad. There is no way it can be as bad as Cisco. How will the market react to that?

IBM will be good.
MSFT will be OK.

In the face of improving news by the end of the week, why would people be shorting. The reaction to Cisco should be
an eye opener to those that are still short the Nasdaq.

...and there are lots of shorts on the Nasdaq.

That is one of my principle reason for prefering buying stocks on the Nasdaq. Over-shorted stocks.

The bear market was also a momentum market but on the downside --just the opposite of the market we saw leading into March 2000. The drop was too severe too not result in a rapid rally to higher levels (not close to all time highs but easily to about 2400 to 2600). Consequently, a "U" shape or "L" is not possible. That is why we won't be getting a slow gain from these levels....the Nasdaq has been pushed down too far thanks the mutual funds raising cash.

IMHO, the shorting mania (ie. momentum downward) is about to come to an end.

..and as a result we return to pre 1998 time of market.

IMHO of course.
