The U.S. itself can't go broke because it can print paper money. The paper may not be worth much a year from now, or it may be worth a lot, but it is worth something because the U.S. says it's legal tender.

As I brainstorm through Russell's thoughts, I consider the New Franc/Old Franc and the post-WWI Mark and even the Confederate dollar. There are many changes possible in a country's currency. Some do not permit one to buy a house or a hamburger with dollars, and other things I need to stay alive.

It is comforting to know that we have choices beyond those which are dollar determined should a very bearish scenario play out.

Just musing aloud . . . .
