re, "if you'd like I'll pm you any 2000 pages I run across and let you decide if they are worth posting to the thread"...

just toss 'em out here for everyone to see. <g> there are probably a good half dozen or more folks on this thread who run win2000.

tc, and others

your onecomputerguy.com site has got me poking around a bit... for now i'm looking at Displaying Hardware Conflicts onecomputerguy.com

and here's what i am seeing on my w2k system

*******************IRQ folder****************

IRQ Number..... Device

9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
9 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
9 YAMAHA Native DS1 WDM Driver

9 Promise Technology Inc. Ultra66 IDE Controller
9 3Com Windows Modem PCI ADI
9 Advansys SCSI Host Adapter
8 System CMOS/real time clock
13 Numeric data processor
6 Standard floppy disk controller
4 Communications Port (COM1)
1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse
15 Secondary IDE Channel

*************Conflicts/Sharing folder********

Resource..... Device

IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
IRQ 9 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 9 YAMAHA Native DS1 WDM Driver
IRQ 9 Macronix MX98715 Family Fast Ethernet Adapter (ACPI)
IRQ 9 Promise Technology Inc. Ultra66 IDE Controller
IRQ 9 3Com Windows Modem PCI ADI
IRQ 9 Advansys SCSI Host Adapter
*********************************

per windows help, "The Conflicts/Sharing node identifies devices that are sharing resources or are in conflict".

what i want to find out is should i assign new IRQ's to some of the above devices? i just have no idea. and i'm unclear as to whether it's okay to share these or if they are in conflict.

the logical question for me is, well, am i having any probs? i would answer, some. i have had occasional loud snapping or cracking noise from speakers, but that seems to have been eliminated when i switched back to the original equipment. i was also getting some bsod's and they seem to have subsided when i disabled blackice. i did that because after each bsod, the bi engine icon had a red slash thru it and needed to be restarted, so it looked guilty. (there's some scientific analysis for you!) <g3>

so, any input on the above IRQ arrangement will be appreciated. this is not an emergency and i don't want anyone to spend a lot of time on it.

:)
