pbull: I was just joking [edit-Could Bush admin be involved -- pressure on FED? I wasn't joking about that speculation ... I'm asking.]

(Was joking re Wichita Falls, obviously)

Re Austin industry -- link ...

I finally looked up Chamber of Commerce and found this:

austin-chamber.org

My impression is that nothing here is viably employable/growth sectors beyond tech ... the old stodgies <g> ... UT, state govt. The typical amount of healthcare & related per capita. Construction/R/E can take a huge tumble, again, obviously ... the area is overbuilt because of tech.

The much touted 'music industry' boils down to broke musicians trying to make it big. And the bars and lounges that hire them ... no big bux there ... they go in and out of biz as often as the bats fly off into the dusk every night ...

Which brings me to the 'tourism' industry ... LOL.. A Chamber creation: the bats. LOL. Those filthy creatures living under the Congress Ave. bridge, as I refer to the phenom. Austin doesn't hold a candle to San Antonio for big-time convention/tourism ... nothing to offer, really, beside the f*cking bats and Sixth Street/other live music environs. <g>

Okay ... all that said, I think living here is great! The climate is superb, as long as one doesn't mind being 'landlocked' 5 hours drive from nearest coasts/beaches.

I sure as hell hope that tech turns around, because if not, will take a big-time toll on quality of life for all Austin residents who aren't yet financially independent.

pbull: Precisely why I don't think it's time to ...

...'load the boat,' even for trading ... in any sector.

I think it's a great time to stay the hell away from equities altogether.

I'm now playing with a handful of puts/calls with not much money at all. I spend the rest of my time -- between dealing with the minituae of moving as I sold my house in the nick of time, I believe -- taunting the egomaniacs around SI. LOL.
