alo, i'm with you. amzn is toast, but i don't see the company being so stupid as to bury itself - game over style - in 6 to 9 months.

I don't quite see it with the same certainty as you do, Glenn. I definitely agree that Amazon is in dire straights, and that it will at best, come very close to bankruptcy, but I still think their chance of pulling through are good. Most likely because they will get money, but even if they don't they can effect tremendous savings (and have been doing so for a while)....

I need to correct I meant at latest Q1 2002. I am sure you knew what I meant. I can't say I have a clue it they will get more money. I do not see how much savings they can do since their DCs are long term leases. Variable costs for them are marketing more than anything else. Total gross profit has more to do with discounting than any significant increase in sales. Amazon has to charge more than a traditional store to turn a profit. I do not know if the buying public will pay more. I suspect not for the majority.
