PS Québec City might start looking like Montréal 1970 pretty soon or at least Seattle.

Everytime they have one of these protests people get permnanetly injured. Everytime the President goes and says that democracy is on the rise. Everytime protests and demonstrations get outlawed and violence is the result. The last one was in Switzerland and they passed a law their making it illegal to assemble and protest free trade while the meeting was going on. People assembled anyone so the authorities had to beat the **** out of them.

You may agree or disagree with the demonstrators but no one can be against the right for people to freely assemble.

Read two stories in the newspaper today that sat side by side. One was Bush saying that free trade would create more democracy all over the world. The second story said that China is going to imprison some academics who had traveled to the United States and Europe. When he was campaigning for the Republican nomination Bush claimed that China was the best example in the world today of how democracy has advanced because of free trade.

The two are not synonymous. Free trade is both the best thing that has happened for the United States and the worst.
