I realize this is heresy, but maybe one thing to consider is that Greenspan may be right. Oh, Lord, I don't want to start another debate about GDP and productivity, and if someone tries to get me going, I'm telling you right now I am not doing it. But when you look at all the myriad goods and services that are consumed, some are more expensive, some less. When you take everything into account, he could be right. Just something to consider.

Just got back from an open house up the block. The floor plan of the house is identical to ours, the linoleum in the kitchen and the counter tops exactly the same, the stove is the same but a different color - and all the carpet is a different color, but it's the same house. They have a very nice deck and a fence, and we don't. They're asking $115K more than we paid for ours in October, 1999. We'll see. The one that's smaller and older that's asking $100K more still hasn't sold.

We went to Home Depot and the lines were so long we just left. Costco was just jammed. People buying stuff.
