HOV pollutes less than individual vehicles.

Why?

Traffic moves faster so there isn't the pollution from idling creep-and-beep traffic

Which traffic?

all the gas is burned to make the car go, not stay idle.

You aren't thinking. Of course, neither were the engineers who were paid by civil authority to deliver what authority wanted to hear.

I think we have less success due to the varied areas people travel from to go to work in. We have many cars filled with two people using the diamond lanes. Many who tried acting as a van service found the distance between drop off points for riders cut into the hours of their day just to much. The drive from here to say area X o might be an hour but the drop off points of 5 people to different spots in X can add another forty five minutes to the trip. Then you have to deal with overtime which we I feel have quite a bit of here and that is the total unknown that does happen and all six are stuck. If you have certain hours and people who can readily find people in the same location with the same hours I am sure it works.
It is a good idea problem is the darn area is still so spread. This is a true story my daughters was in one of these pools. They met at an arranged spot the driver attempted to drop everyone off at their work place. He started with eight people which he found was too many varied spots and he turned to six then three and got out of the transit business totally.

Two in that car pool got married and that was my daughter and her husband which the van driver swore saved his marriage as he could get to his home by eight oclock at night to see his wife. The end result was one sold van and a new compact that saved gas.
