Ossnat, we only have to look at our own history, at the time, only an extreme anti communist (and a Mc Carty-ist at that) could open the diplomatic doors of cooperation with China, similarly, only a right wing leader like Begin (and not Golda Meyer) could sign peace with Egypt, and possibly only now, only one like Sharon, can bring about the liberation of the Palestinians from years of political exploitation by their brethern and leaders.
