Bill, Via may have higher aspirations, but if all they got to satisfy those aspirations in the CPU field is their current Cyrix/Winchip "Samuel" thing, their aspirations don't really inspire much fear.

It's a little confusing, though, with Intel apparently committed to phasing out s/370 with the Piii in short order, Via may have that socket all to themselves in 6 months or a year's time for whatever it's worth. On the other hand, Intel could crank out .13um Piiis incredibly cheaply if it looked like Via had something going. And the Tualatin would by all indications look really good compared to anything Via has cooking. Anybody want to calculate how many would fit on one of their 300mm wafers?

Via would have to be pretty naive to cross up AMD in hopes of a better alliance with Intel.
