Merrill: Dell's Q1 on track (DELL)
By Tomi Kilgore

Analyst Steven Fortuna at Merrill Lynch said "a series of checks" are indicating that Dell Computer (DELL) is on track to meet or exceed consensus expectations of 10 percent revenue growth and earnings of 17 cents per share for the fiscal first quarter ending in April. Fortuna said U.S. sales in April appear to be slightly below plan, but are being offset by European sales. Also, he thinks Dell built in "a substantial cushion" when it gave its revenue growth guidance. The stock is trading up 18 cents at $26.03.

D J -
I'm not sure what this post is supposed to imply about DELL. Surely there will continue to be a market for PCs - a market which has sold more than 100 million units annually for a while now.

The rise in PC sales in Japan may or may not be correlated to the introduction of early, almost prototype, programmable handsets a la imode. The next generation of those products will not need to have a direct connection to a particular PC for any purpose. The idea that people would put up with today's primitive connectivity and programmability next year is laughable, let alone in 4 or 5 years. The author of the article is some kind of luddite.
