Sam, you're right that Samsung is an 800 lb. gorilla, and that is probably why SanDisk didn't file a patent infringement suit against them. Instead, SanDisk wisely (IMHO) filed a complaint with the Department of Commerce, asking the Dept. to ban the import of any Samsung flash memory device involving unlicensed use of SanDisk patents. Thus, SanDisk opted for administrative action, not court action, the result of which tended to legitimize the SanDisk patents and send a warning signal to any other company that thought they could make something similar without paying licensing fees or royalties.

As I said, it costs big bucks to go to court these days, particularly when patents are at stake.
