I'd think it's RDRAM.
Who is the PC's manufacturer? You need short it along with INTC and RMBS. Since you didn't buy SDRAM you should short MU as well.

I have had problems with ME on networked PC's, your hard disk sounds like it is going south and windows is becoming more trashed by the minute. At this point transfering registry settings or ghosting the drive will cause emotional problems for your new machine. Create a new folder called oldhd and xcopy or drag and drop the entire contents of your old drive into it through your ethernet connection. You can kill it later when you got everything you want out of it. You will save yourself time and headaches in the long run by reinstalling your apps and copying your data files into an unmolested windows fresh install on your new box.

<<I bought a P4 with 256M PC800 RDRAM>>

Why?

A 1 GHz P3 with SDRAM and a cheap motherboard would have been less than half the price, and slightly faster for general-purpose computing. Also quieter and cooler.

as long as you are going to the trouble

junk me and install win 2000

more stable and better for a networked situation

if you do that you'll need to tweak win 2000 a bit if you have an ultra hard drive... i went through hell figuring that out... but no point in telling you about it unless you are going to put win 2k on the machine...

is the problem machine the "new" machine?
