In an interview on ABC news, I heard Mr. Bush say explicitly that the US would intervene should China attack. However, there is some doubt about China's ability to successfully take over Taiwan unless other countries come to its aid. For instance, I've read that Chinese pilots cannot fly more than 20 planes in formation at one time. Also, there is some problem with their missile launches. This information came from various press reports. North Korea is another matter, however. Because of military might they do pose a threat to Japan and the South.
