Elmer,

Intel widens the MHz lead

Nonsense. 2GHz is 33% faster than 1.5GHz. The same frequency margin P4 has had over Athlon all along.

Elmer,

re: "2 GHz P4 due "about a quarter from now"

I thought it was a good thing also. They talked about P4 as if it was scaling VERY well. They also projected the yield on .13 as the fastest of any new process. Reading between the lines, I also felt that P4 performance at less that 2 GHz was OK, but wait till you get over 2 GHz. Otellini's comments on Rambus were interesting.

Also there was a lot of stuff about motherboards, that's not in my vocabulary. I wish a tech knowledgeable person would take a listen.

One analyst said that Microsoft had never come out with a new OS at the same time that Intel was ramping a new architecture, and what did they think that would do for sales. The response was remarkably subdued, but with snickering. They seemed very confident, at least with the products, not as much with the world economy.

I know it's 4 1/2 hours, but's it's the best way to get a really good feel for where Intel is coming from in their decisions. I highly recommend Intel investors listen to the webcast. AMD investors also.

John

Elmer - Re: "while hammer is slipping further."

If the Hammer slips, will that pound the last nail in AMD's coffin?
