Merrill Lynch Investment Highlights for 4/25/01

Dell

After a series of checks we continue to believe that Dell is tracking to meet or beat the current consensus view for 10% growth in revenue and EPS of $0.17.

We reiterate our Buy rating on Dell shares and continue to believe that the company has outstanding long term prospects.

rudedog,

re: that CPQ stock outperformed DELL over the last 2 years, and also over the last year..

All that means is that CPQ has been flatlined for a longer period than DELL. Two years ago, DELL's price was ~41; Cpq's 22. Both might have been considered only slightly silly buys. Last April 26th, DELL was ~50; CPQ 29....both very silly buys at the time and in hindsight considering their valuations and earnings problems. The fact is that for the "what have you done for me lately crowd" DELL is significantly off its lows while CPQ remains teetered dangerously close to its low. Does that make CPQ a better buy than DELL right now, despite you pointing out Dell's net profit, and your continued illustration of DELL's revenue % as per unit sales of serves vs. Compaq's? Not for me. But DELL isn't horribly attractive either. So for me, its playing options while rarely looking at my longs.

Cheers,
Kaka

rudedog-all you did was make my first point much more elegantly than I did (love this site-you guys are the greatest), but that was then and this is now...

What computer company is making money? What computer company is taking market share? What computer company is up 50% this year?
