hi quahog

re "told me that the file was infected with MS32.Magistr... a little concerned that Norton didn't pick it up. Any thoughts?"

the virus is covered extensively at the symantec av center site, and it looks like virus definitions for W32.Magistr.24876@mm have been around for 6 weeks (March 13, 2001).

symantec.com@mm.html

symantec says the virus is also known as: I-Worm.Magistr, PE_MAGISTR.A, W32.Magistr@mm

as for why nav did not pick it up at the yahoo site, quite possibly the yahoo tool is not updated frequently enough? that's all i can think of, unless it's a different strain.

so you opened the file and were told it is infected. is it now removed via your av software?

:)

If I'm reading you right and your testing a new anti-virus program installed after Norton, I would think it installed itself as the default virus checker and would detect the virus before Norton had a shot at it. If your new program hadn't been there, I'll bet Norton would have sprung into action.
