Actually, the av software prevented the file from opening, so my assumption is that I am not infected. I have since deleted the email and attachment from my system....and will run a full scan later this evening to be sure.

Hi, everybody. I'm helping a relative install her new Dell Inspiron Windows Me laptop.

Here's the problem: at some point in the installation process, a gray icon appeared on the desktop. It never leaves the top of the screen. It's a gray icon with 4 colored boxes in it...a variation on the Windows icon. I can move it around the desktop but only to an edge of the screen...it kind of clicks into place and sometimes scoots back as if it were on an elastic band.

If I right-click on it, nothing happens. If I left click on it, I get a menu with photographs on it, between two and five. Outdoorsy photos. If I drag it to the recycle bin, nothing happens.

I called Dell Tech Support and they just couldn't help me. One guy had a theory that it was some kind of a virus linked to a porno site, but all we've done the last couple of days is install AOL and a printer, and read normal AOL emails with no photos and no attachments, and visit one or two secure websites. The Dell tech support guys couldn't help me delete it.

During the installation process, I started to install DellNet, but aborted it because even though there was a free year, they needed a VISA card so I halted it. I called DellNet but they couldn't help me.

The machine came installed with Norton Antivirus, which I updated after the icon appeared, and scanned the computer and no viruses were found.

The icon stays at the top of the screen no matter what I'm looking at...right now it's at the top of the AOL menu. Rebooting doesn't budge it.

Help! Does anyone recognize this icon or can you tell me how to get rid of it? It doesn't seem to be anything Dell hardware or Dellnet people recognize. I don't know if it's a Windows Me thing or if it really is some sort of a virus. How to get rid of it???

Thanks so much for your help!
