I just got back from the pool. The mind goes off in all directions during an hour of laps. I guess it was our conversation that reminded me of an anecdote from quite a while back. A colleague of mine and her husband were a very attractive, sharp, outdoorsy, and green young couple. One day about the time that taxol was first being used for breast cancer she was in a funk because her husband had told her that he wouldn't cut down a juniper tree to save her if she had breast cancer but rather would let her die. I'm not sure she ever got over that. My mother was suffering from breast cancer at the time. I recall thinking about what I would do. I decided that I wouldn't cut down the very last juniper tree to save her. I wasn't sure about the next to the last.

FWIW
