The guys at 3M vote for Newton.

Wherein they loosely translate his law as:

One of Newton's laws states that energy is neither created nor destroyed it is only transferred from one form to another.

And at: eetimes.com

John Cooley, with his tongue firmly implanted in his cheek, declares:

"Babies clearly violate Newton's Law of the Conservation of Mass. You know,
that "matter can be neither created nor destroyed" hooey. "

And then gives his argument for why Newton was clearly mistaken. :-) An enjoyable read.

So I discard your LaVoisier out of hand, and stick with my Newton (though it's usually a Fig Newton that sticks to my teeth).
