Try Information, Tools, System Configuration Utility, StartUp tab. Run through the choices and see if the offending application is listed. Un-check it.

Look in the StartUp folder in your Start menu tree. If the program is starting from there, delete its icon.

Check Control Panel, Add/Remove programs. If it's listed, you could remove it from your system.

Cheers, PW.

hi daffodil

looks like you are getting close to solving your dilemma. way to hang in there. the end is near. <g3>

Microsoft Works Portfolio looks like it's part of Microsoft® Works Suite 2001. why not go to their help file and look for info on your logo/icon prob there?

good luck

daffodil,

double eureka!!

check this out, it looks just like what you're talking about... with pictures.

"This new application starts each time you start Windows (you can disable the autostart feature if it bugs you) and displays a small docked button: if you click this button a window is displayed and unveils a portfolio where you can collect and organize photos or texts."

activewin.com

[edit in: so what we need to find is how to disable autostart on the portfolio applet. in msworks, cruise through the menu selections under headings like 'tools' or 'format' and look for 'options' or something similar and i bet you'll find where to turn this puppy off.]

:)
