If it were up to me, lawyers would wear
polo shirts and khakis

And you would really be willing to pay $400 per hour to a guy wearing a polo shirt and khakis? Or would you give the same respect to a cop in a Hawaiian shirt and flowered pants as in a starched, pressed blue uniform?

If so, you're rare.

Uniforms are becoming more, not less, common. And for good reason -- people do respect formality. Even some schools now are touting the benefit of uniforms. Casual Fridays are going out of style. Suits are coming back (Hint -- buy Mens Wearhouse.)

Personally, I don't wear a suit and tie to work. I wear business shirts, sweaters, and Dockers. But then, I don't charge $400 per hour, either.

Edit: but I do wear a coat and tie to court. I have to. It's part of the rules.
