And you would really be willing to pay $400 per hour to a guy wearing a polo shirt and khakis? I wouldn't pay $400 per hour to a lawyer even if he looked like Mel Gibson and were stark, bare naked. Uniforms are becoming more, not less, common. And for good reason -- people do respect formality. Uniforms have their uses. They are necessary when you have to be able to instantly tell who's who, like basketball players and security guards. They are also necessary sometimes in the arts for aesthetics, like chorus lines. I think we can all tell who is the judge and who are the lawyers in a courtroom without uniforms. And if those individuals are so lacking in self esteem that they need uniforms to prop them up, they should be in another line of work, especially the judge. Or would you give the same respect to a cop in a Hawaiian shirt and flowered pants as in a starched, pressed blue uniform? Only if the prints matched. No, seriously, I treat everyone with respect. Actually, I tend to give points to those who command respect without all the superficial trappings. IMO, people are only diminished by their need for trappings. Karen
