We don't know what the IBM connection is at all and it might be that the contract is for wafer preparation and not the process itself.

IBM developed its own SOI wafer fabrication process based on IBIS implanters and then licensed the process back to IBIS for them to use for their customers. I don't believe the contract is for any wafer
preparation. AMD would have to go through IBIS for that.

On the other hand, it seems that IBM involvement has been present for some time. Kap recalls hearing about it in Oct. '99.

There might have been some discussion on an executive level that early but there could not have been any working cooperation on an engineer level until at least May 2000. I would certainly have heard about it. Actually, my guess is that it was considerably later.
