I do have a position on QCOM. Felt that the stock was getting hit for short term earnings concern and that was not the key factor that drives the trading.

Still not among my larger positions. Also factored in the NTT delay in WCDMA as a positive for Q....and it seems Verizon and Sprint PCS are racing against each other to get to the next stage of the inevitable 3G.
It puts them in a much better competitive position compared to companies like AT&T wireless, even if it means 144kb internet speed...actually that is pretty fast compared to the 56k modem.
It creates a competitive advantage for the wireless carriers like Sprint--retention rate increases and signing up new customers is easier.
IMHO, The most important thing to note is that even if a new customer only wants a simple voice service, he/she may still get caught up in the hype of a higher speed internet connection.....and end up picking a cdma service; knowing that the service is available even if there is no intention to use it in the near term will still help bring in new customers and/or increase retention rate.

I am still trying to figure out how QCOM's revenue and eps picture changes as newer technologies are rolled out. Going to listen to some of their past conference calls and read some earnings releases--when I get time. If there is any good summary of their business model and analysis of their future prospects, I would appeciate them.

The one imediate question that I have now is, how does the rollouts by Sprint and Verizon at year end affect Q's earnings. Is it just newer phones? I am still learning.

(QCOM was the one stock that I avoided in the ups and downs of the market in the past 2 year..except for some small trades once in a while)
