John,

re: "How could Intel be losing this much money in their "Other" businesses."

I don't have a clue. How do you lose about $1B on $1.5B in sales in 1Q01? I did a rough mental calculation when the numbers came out of about $.15 a share.

Barrett is betting the company on the communications and networking group. On paper the strategy sounds good, but the numbers are bad and accelerating to the downside. IF there is a strong move to 2.5G and 3G, and IF Intel wins the designs, the company will be in great shape, two capitalized IF'S. If not, it's could be ugly.

re: "I'm still skeptical of the breakdown in expenses between IAG and "Other." In particular, what about Marketing? What about depreciation? Are these expenses just divided according to revenue to make CPG look better?"

I suspect that everything is fairly clean. It's never perfect.

re: "HUH? Operating Profit was restated for Q1 of 2000!"

That was news to me.

But to my point, AMD investors should be very happy that Intel is throwing $Billions into the black hole that is the "other businesses". Because of the added risk in Intel I have significantly reduced my position in the last nine months. Still bullish on IAG.
