While that is clearly true looking ahead, there will be a knee jerk reaction in the short run.

That has two elements.

Again it looks like Lucy pulling the football away at the last minute - time and time again.

And it shows that China is not repeat not a participant in the real world of business.

The political/bureaucratic morass that is China is shown again clearly.

Nothing is "normal" in China in business terms.

The "game" is not open, clear and predictable.

Bad.

But then, this too will pass.

And it will pass because China has so much to gain in its own interest from the ability to use CDMA for its own gain.

Qualcomm has done a masterful job [combined with vision] in involving the Chinese in CDMA in ways the Europeans have not in GSM.

Game, set, and match will be Qualcomm (with the Koreans as a major "neutral" [chuckle] helper).
