Brice,

never go to a teaching hospital for surgery unless it's super-specialized stuff. residents perform 95% of surgeries. sometimes staff is present, sometimes not.

I take issue with that. It is illegal to do surgery without attending staff present. Ask Univ. of Pennsylvania or any of the others how much money they're paying in fines for such delinquent behavior.

hospitals work interns/residents because they're cheap labor and teaching staff are inherently lazy.

I agree that interns and residents work too hard, but there is a lot to learn. Teaching staff being inherently lazy is another statement with which I take issue.

It's the same thing as stereotyping all private practicioners as being money grubbing, greedy, and dumb.

See how callused and insensitive such a statement can be?

I've seen the private practice and academic world...neither are perfect, but both have good and bad qualities about them.

Regards,
mike
