This is OT but the E-wave guys have their own thread now so maybe it's ok - the scariest thing I see is the shortage of nurses. Last year when my mother was in a wreck I drove her to the Fairfax Hospital ER - the ER had more than a half dozen people in scrub suits but only one of them was a nurse, the rest were interns and residents. The year before, my son had to have an emergency open reduction, surgery finished at 2 a.m., and the only nurse in the recovery room was a temp who didn't know where anything was. Fortunately, the surgeon and I went to high school together, so he ok'd me staying with him.

Also, last year, a retired judge I know choked to death on aspirated vomit right after elective surgery, same hospital. His wife was with him but she stepped out for a moment.

It's supposed to be a good hospital, too. I'd never leave a family member unattended for a minute there, or anywhere else. If I couldn't be there, I'd hire a private duty nurse, and pray.
