Ok, I finally found enough time to finally set up my new PC. I posted earlier that I ordered the Swiftech heatsink, and I have to say that the heatsink is a very bad idea in combination with A7M266 motherboard. Of the 2 systems I set up, one is fine, the other one, during one of the adjustments, I probably did not screw it in enough, or the capacitor that's blocking it kept it high enough so that there was not enough pressure on the core, the bottom line is I killed the CPU using this heatsink. Andreas is apparently going to try the same heatsink with MSI K7 motberboard, which apparently has enough room for the heatsink.

Anyway, now I went conservative and got the Alpha 6035 heatsink, and it is working fine with the CPU. One thing to keep in mind with this heatsink is to make sure the clip is positioned correctly, so that the pressure point is on the CPU die. Originally, I had it rotated incorrectly, and it resulted in CPU 7C hotter.

Anyway, I tried it with 2 fans, one very low performance 13 CFM ADDA fan and with higher performace ADDA fan that generates 28.3 CFM.

The slow fan is fine for non-overclocked 1.33 GHz CPU, and it is barely audible. I tried some quick and easy overclocking, just changing the FSB. I am posting right now with the CPU running at 1.48 GHz (148 MHz x 10). It looks like everything is running fine, I tried a bunch of Sandra benchmarks plus Word, Excel, not much more. The CPU is running at 48C. I tried 150, and it crashed loading Windows. I am using Crucial PC-2100 DDR, which is rated CAS 2.5 (2.5-3-3) and I have it overclocked to CAS 2 (2-2-2) and it is running fine, and it is not the bottleneck in reaching 150 GHz.

I didn't try to do anything with the voltage to overclock the CPU. Maybe if I find more time I will do that.

I tried some limited underclocking. It runs fine at 1.55 V and 1.33 GHz. 1.45V and 1.5V were a little iffy. I will probably try this again, since I ran my first test with the heatsink clip in wrong position, resulting it weak cooling and CPU much hotter than it should have been.

I am probably going to get the Sanyo Denki fan, which is probably the best compromise between noise and cooling. I have no need for overclocking, since this computer is blindingly fast, and 10 to 12% extra over 1.33 GHz doesn't seem worth it. For overclockers on the budget, 1 GHz AXIA core CPU is probably the best deal, promising up to 50% overclock.

PS: Crucial memory is really a bargain, and the very best DDR you can get. The combo of AMD 760 chipset, Tbird with 266MHz FSB and Crucial PC-2100 DDR are THE best thing right now for computer geeks. It's a shame that the stories of shortages of 760 chipsets are with us again. I would have the person at AMD making these decisions shot, well, fired. What AMD should do is to charge a high premium. Generating artificial shortages is a completely brain dead idea.
