What if you have 12 items in the 12 and under express line and as you load the items on the conveyer to be scanned (and while they are being scanned) you grab a candy bar from the "impulse shelf" set next to the check out lane.

When I take a load of stuff to a regular line and wait patiently for the mother of eight with two full carts and coupons who can't remember her debit card pin number and has to go to the car, turns and asks me to watch the unruly kids, and right behind me is some jerk with three items (one of them beer) breathing down the back of my neck like I'm supposed to cave and say, "Oh, you only have a couple of things; go right ahead" because somehow "Pushover" is tattooed on my butt, is when shopping becomes a really bad experience for me.

I count duplicate items as one. I would stop at the veggie section, get one of those plastic bags and load the yogurt into it like oranges or donuts. Then instead of having 12 items, you have only seven and can get three more.
