But if you're ready to just trade long using only the existing funds in your account, you should be fine.

Alan, I am not sure if this is correct, although I hope it is. The way I read the rule is if you trade four or more times a week you are classified as PDT and the minimum equity requirement is 25K. I believe this would be regardless of whether margin loans are used or not.
