I have yet to figure out what to do in an inflation economy (other than gas/oil & real estate, which of course have already appreciated greatly). In the 70's anyone who invested in stocks would have lost 40% in real value (after correcting for soaring inflation).

Anyone? If you had about 40% of your portfolio in INTC (as you say you do) during the 70s (or most of 'em, since Intel IPO'd in '72), you'd have gained plenty of real value, even if the rest went all the way to zero. Intel was the most successful technology company of the 20th century.

Today, any financial planner would say that your portfolio needs more diversification. There's a lot of risk in such a concentrated position.
