Thread, I didn't see this article linked yet on DDR module validation:

Monday May 7, 9:00 am Eastern Time

Press Release

SMART Modular Technologies Announces Results Of
Validation Program For PC1600 And PC2100 DDR DIMMs

Forty PC1600 And PC2100 Modules Have Passed Device, Module And System
Characterization Tests Using The AMD-760(TM) Chipset Independent Validation
Program Encourages Industry-Wide Support And Enables Faster Time-To-Market
For Double Date Rate (DDR) Technology

Full article here: biz.yahoo.com

The only thing I found particularly interesting was a reference to modules up to 1GB:

For the complete list of validated modules, go to amd.com . These DDR DIMMs, which are available in densities up to 1GB, offer data transfer rates up to 2.1 GB/second.

Following the link it lists only unbuffered DIMMs and up to 512MB. I explored around AMD's site a little more but haven't found any listings of 1GB DIMMs.

Chuck, Re: It makes a lot of sense to keep Morgan at 64K L2 and increase Palomino to 512K L2. The 256K additional cache can explain much of the 15% difference that you quote.

I hope so. With the added features and the cooler running core, Duron could be a killer processor for low budget computing and give the PIII a run for its money. The main obstacle for Duron to get more design wins is IMO the bad differentiation from Thunderbird and the high power consumption which is untypical for PCs in that price range. Morgan could change this. I also hope AMD uses the PR advantage to have the first budget processor at 1 GHz.

Not true at all! Duron and Athlon already have different L2 sizes.

Yes, sure. I meant that it is unlikely that Palomino and Morgan will differ on anything different except L2 cache.
